Exercising generates muscle stem cells
22 October 2010
Exercising helps keep you fit, but it also seems that it enhances your muscle's stem cells.
A recent study on rats at PlosOne and published online indicates that muscle stem cells (called satellite cells) increases with exercise, in both older and younger rats.
Muscle stem cells generates muscle tissues following injury or illness. There is no excuse for not exercising now - whatever your age.
A briefing can be found here at Science Magazine and the study report is published here at PlosOne.
