SPM Award of Excellence 2009 - Ong Kian Poh

First of all I want to thank GBSOBA for giving me this opportunity to deliver a few words here. There is no any secret behind my success in the SPM examination. I do believe that everyone must have his own principle in order to drive him to where he wants to go to. We need not have to be great to start but we should start to be great.

During my schooling years in GBS, I was just among the good students and consistency in study allowed me to maintain in good class. Paying full concentration during lessons enables me to absorb the gist of the knowledge whereas putting all the effort in while doing exercises and revisions help to reinforce my understanding. When I encountered difficulties in my study I would try my best to solve them first rather than going straight to the teachers for solutions.

Besides self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertaking. So, it is very important to always think of success, not failure. In order to get rid of the hectic life, I managed to strike a balance between studies and extra-curricular activities. In those past five years I had participated in scouting, Science and Mathematics Association and Chess Club where I gained wider perspectives and enhanced my social skills. Other than that I enjoy playing badminton and practicing Chinese calligraphy.

Special thanks to all the teachers who have made me a better man, treating us like their own daughters and sons as well as giving us valuable advice; my parents who have brought me up till who I am today and not least my friends who will always be with me.

I was quite surprise when GBSOBA has chosen me as one of the SPM award of excellence receiver. Thank you very much for affirming my achievements.

Furthermore, I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the PSD scholars for the year 2009. I am now taking Cambridge A-Level programme at Kolej Teknologi Timur in Sepang, Selangor for one and a half years before pursuing my MBBS course in India. I told myself I must continue my enthusiasm in learning and let my dream becomes inevitable one day in the future. Hopefully my friends and I could make our GBS proud once again.

GBS - always The Better School
